Rome Fortune's Beautiful Pimp II mixtape came out just under a week ago, and since then I've been making sense of it's experimental depth and progression. Until I read about the release of this tape on The Fader, I was pretty unaware of Rome, and listening to his releases from most recent to earliest, I'm pretty sure he's outdone himself with this one.
Beautiful Pimp II feels like it has much more purpose than it's predecessor, whilst sounding ultra current and innovative. The production is handled entirely by Citoonthebeat, which makes this feel like much more of a cohesive body of work than a lot of mixtapes often do. If there was one track out of 15 that was produced in this way, it was probably sound out of place from stuff that a lot of producers are doing right now, but pull them together over 10 or more tracks, and you've got a real statement.
I don't know a great deal about Rome, but give him a follow here, and most importantly, listen to and download the tape below.
