Sheffield’s Mamnick have a knack of getting things just right, while always doing things a little different. With the brand's first foot into the world of denim, both of these traits are on show.
Working from the ground up and looking at the new jeans on offer to begin with, the Okayama jean is made from 14oz raw denim and features a nice selvedge edge.
With a lovely relaxed yet slim fit, the Okayama jean has exactly the kind of ‘just right’ style that we’re always in search of when it comes to denim. Mamnick’s pinpoint attention to detail means they’ve got things spot on. Pretty impressive, considering this is their first denim product, although we’ve come to express nothing less from the brand.
Onto the Okayama jacket, where things get really special. A three button relaxed blazer made of the very same 14oz selvedge as the Okayama jean, it's a real hard wearing piece. The idea works brilliantly and is executed to a standard that really does it justice - I can't imagine this is an easy piece to get right.
Denim is one thing that many brands steer clear of, and with stiff competition from specialists such as Huit, Nudie or Edwin, it kind of makes sense, although the Okayama jean and jacket quite easily stand up to the test. Also, with their first pursuit into the indigo stuff, you can now wear a whole Mamnick outfit, which would look pretty ace.
Hopefully, we’ll see denim featuring in the Mamnick inventory again soon, although if one thing for sure, Mamnick isn’t a brand to rush anything. Whether it’s a pair of handmade shoes, an Oxford Shirt or something crafted from Sheffield Steel, Mamnick’s patience and vision always shines through in the end product.
