Cambridge Satchel Company dips into canvas

Cambridge Satchel Company are–unsurprisingly–known for their satchels. Specifically leather satchels, you can bag CSC’s signature style in pretty much every colour you can think of.

They use British materials, they’ve got Cambridge in the title, and of course their output is known for its rather British feel. They represent a nice side to Britain that’s easy to forget about when you’re a cynical Brit. We like that.

They’ve made their first move into the world of canvas, that durable material that you can’t really go wrong with, for a couple of men's bags. It’s British-made canvas, of course, and the styles are as timeless and practical as you'd expect.

The Steamer Rucksack (pictured top left in navy) is nice and deep, perfect for your MacBook and that, finished with a leather top flap. Coming in Navy and black, it’s got an air of tradition and a classic feel while remaining the right side of contemporary. You can imagine this paired with a Rains or Elka coat this Winter, finished with some Edwin's and a pair of Astorflex or Bass Weejuns: sturdy, hard-wearing stuff that can take much more of a beating than we often have chance to give it.

We’ve also got a nice gym hold-all as well (pictured top right in black), which is a proper essential (don’t worry, I’ve never got round to getting one either), while the shape means you aren’t going to feel like you’re carrying a suitcase on your back or anything, which is sometimes the case with weekend bags. The all over canvas means you don’t need to worry too when storing it in luggage racks or putting it on the floor, which is handy.

It’s nice when things are really practical, well executed and unfussy. It’s what the Cambridge Satchel Company get right across the board, and why your mum, sister and grandma own one, want one, or have thought about adding it to their Christmas list.

Both styles are available on the Cambridge Satchel Company website, be sure to check ‘em out.
