Introverted, melancholy and moving at a pace like no other, Bones’ latest EP YouShouldHaveSeenYourFace has all the elements of hip hop in 2015, but kind of all mushed together, blurred and fragmented so it doesn’t even sound like hip hop anymore.
Bones, who you may know as Th@ Kid, has been putting out more music than you’ve got in your iTunes library for a few years now, keeping a low profile and the corporate arm of music well away from everything he’s doing. With ambience, calm and darkness all present, YouShouldHaveSeenYourFace flits genres each time you think you’ve got your finger on what it might sound like. At different points, you can draw parallels to Sad Boys, Clams Casino, Travis $cott and even Zomby, but that’s only going to get you part of the way, because what Bones is doing doesn’t really fit alongside anything else, and that’s why it’s so great.
My favourite track is probably FrenchTerryCloth because it kinda sounds like it could turn into a garage track early on, followed by Bones flowing nicely throughout.
