2013 has seen a cascade of albums from highly anticipated artists. Shortly after christmas saw a debut release from A$AP Rocky, then Justin Timberlake returned to melting hearts via MP3 & we're still making our mind up about Kanye... I'm personally worrying he might have just pulled off an early mid life crisis over ten tracks. I could list them, but from Tyler, the Creator through to Mac Miller, I'm sure 2013's releases are still fresh on iPod's across the land.
With this in mind, I've decided to take a look at the albums that really didn't need to come out this year, and give you prior warning on a few to keep at ears length as we make our way through the latter half of 2013.
Adam Ant - Adam Ant Is The Bluetack Hussar In Marrying The Gunners Daughter - Not even Adam Ant fans like Adam Ant in 2013... I doubt that even Adam Ant likes Adam Ant anymore. I'd be more inclined to give this a listen if it was titled Reasons to Forget the 80's and contained 45-60 minutes of make-up and dance routine tips from Mr Ant himself.
Dido - The Girl Who Got Away - As far as I'm aware, Dido didn't get away, the last time I saw her she was locked in Eminem's boot and ended up in a river in like '03.
Mark Owen - The Art of Doing Nothing - Perfecting the art of doing nothing would have been a stellar improvement on a Take That solo album.
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories - I'm sorry, I had to... I was right up for it for a while but now I'm just sick of hearing Get Lucky. The fact I STILL SORT OF LIKE IT after hearing it a ridiculous amount of times annoys me even more... If I had to go as far as to pretend this LP never happened to stop hearing THAT song in bars, shops, clubs, WI meetings & baptisms, I would.
Will.I.Am - #Willpower - I don't care how many club bangers are on it, who features on it or what ridiculous outfit he's wearing today, any album title that features a hashtag screams #sellbydatethrowawaypop. Yes, that goes for you Avicii, with an album titled #TRUE coming out in September.
So there's my cynical take on music right now, poking fun at the more questionable and vulnerable artists out there. Any thoughts, comments & suggestions are appreciated below as always.
